Hurricanes Reveal Squad for Sixers Clash
The Hobart Hurricanes are ready to host a home final in the Qualifier at Ninja Stadium for the first time since 2020. This exciting match will take place against the Sydney Sixers, a team the Hurricanes defeated earlier this year in Hobart by 50 runs. Fans are hoping for a repeat of that performance as the โCane Trainโ aims to secure another big win.
If the Hurricanes win tomorrow night, they will go straight into the grand final, scheduled for Monday, January 27, which is a public holiday.
Although the Hurricanes lost to the Melbourne Stars last night, they had already locked in the top spot with a victory over the Brisbane Heat on Thursday. In that match at the MCG, the Hurricanes were chasing a challenging 220 runs on a batter-friendly pitch but fell short, bowled out for 179 with just three balls left.
Nathan Ellis, the teamโs captain, was a standout, scoring 40 runs from 22 balls. Mitch Owen continued his excellent form, smashing 38 runs off 17 balls, including several massive sixes over the leg side.
The game also marked the return of Ben McDermott, who had missed four matches, and Chris Jordan, who sat out two games. Both players had been recovering from injuries but are now back and ready for what looks to be a long and thrilling finals run. Riley Meredith, who has played every match this season, was rested but could return for tomorrowโs crucial game.
Jake Doran is back in the squad after missing the game against the Stars, while Marcus Bean will sit this one out.
