RCB’s All-Rounder Jacob Bethell Smashes Maiden BBL Half-Century. Bethell’s 50-ball 87, which guided the Renegades to 157/7 in 20 overs, included eight fours and four sixes.

English all-rounder Jacob Bethell hit his first half-century in the Big Bash League (BBL) during a match between the Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval on Tuesday.

The Renegades had a tough start, losing three quick wickets for 23 runs during the Power Play. Bethell stepped up and saved the team by building steady partnerships with Tim Siefert and captain Will Sutherland.

Bethell’s innings ended on the first ball of the last over when Mitch Owen’s direct throw ran him out. He scored 87 runs from 50 balls, hitting eight fours and four sixes. The Renegades finished with a total of 154/7 in 20 overs.

Bethell, a left-handed batter and left-arm spinner, was bought by the IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for ₹2.6 crore at the mega auction in Saudi Arabia.

RCB, still searching for their first IPL trophy, is counting on Bethell to replace Glenn Maxwell and Will Jacks, who were not retained after IPL 2024. Bethell has an impressive T20I strike rate of 167.96 and can bat in the top or middle order. He has also been used as a finisher in ODI cricket.

Bethell made his T20 and ODI debuts in a series against Australia last September. He showed his skill with two unbeaten half-centuries in a five-match series against the West Indies.
